The Turkish American Women’s Scholarship Fund (TAWSF) was founded in January 1989 to further the university education of women, preparing them for the challenges of modern society. The founding members are Ayhan Lash, Leyla Harfoush and Belma Selçukoğlu.

TAWSF awards scholarships to female students who need financial assistance and who are in good academic standing. Our scholarships are awarded to women because, while Turkish women have been pursuing university education during much of the 20th century, low-income families usually make their sons’ education their first priority.

Since 1989, TAWSF has granted 543 scholarships ($900/year) to 181 students. Our students have diverse academic interests and represent universities across Turkey.

“Everything we see in the world is the creative work of women.”
